Happy 7th Birthday Maija!

Sorry it is so late. Maija had her birthday on January 25th! It is also our 11th wedding anniversary.

We had a great party at Grandma and Grandpa's house. We played Dance Dance Revolution on the Wii, made princess crowns and wands, opened presents and ate lots of cake and ice cream!

RACE DAY!

Ahhh, the scent of pinewood and paint was in the air tonight! Cub Scout Pack #352 had their first ever Pinewood Derby today. Boys were running all over the gym, waving little cars around.

Preston's car weigh in came to 4.8oz. He saw some other boys gluing pennies to their cars to up the weight so he got in on the action. 2 strategically placed pennies on the underneath of the front axle upped his weight to an even 5oz, the max allowed. Fourteen cars were entered and raced. It was a very fast and close race. Preston chose the number 98 for his car because that is the same number Adam used on his car 25 years ago.

We are very proud to say that Preston was UNDEFEATED! He won every single race!! Preston also won an award for Best Sportsmanship!

He is on cloud 9 tonight. So proud of his car. I am so proud of him for working hard on it and understanding the point of the event, being a good sport. We asked him what he would do if he did not win, and he said it was ok, he just wanted to have fun and see the cars race.

On to the pictures and videos!

Its Pinewood Derby time!

Its that time of year. Adam did it like 25 years ago and boy has it changed! We still have his original car that the kids play with.

Preston wanted a winning design so we talked with our friends, Rachel and Darwin, and they gave us some great ideas and tips. Their son Michael has won 2 times now!

Tuesday is the race day. We will let you know how it goes. For now, enjoy some pictures of the car being created. Preston wanted it Blue and Silver for the Dallas Cowboys.

I'm so glad when Daddy comes home!

Do you see what I am up against every day? How can I compete with that level of play? If I die, I know my children will be ok. A little wild and riled up, but ok. Notice my little drinkaholic with the soda bottle. She has learned from the best!

A little bit of sweet, a little bit of sass

This girl is quickly catching up with Maija on the sass meter. Maija was pretty sassy but she never did shake her finger at you!

Beep Beep!

She has figured out how to go backwards! Now if she would figure out how to go forwards, and to walk, and to talk, and to eat....

Not so little anymore

When did he get permission to grow up?

Preston got his braces on today. Back in April 2007 he had a palate expander put in to make enough room for all of his teeth. Today is the day he's been waiting for (I don't know why, braces hurt!). He was excited for the appointment but now a few hours later he's not so excited. Pain shall be a constant friend for a few days with this poor guy.

He chose red and black for his bands to represent the high school in our area. Oh and Spiderman of course.

Family Movie Night

Every Friday night is Movie Night. We drag out blankets and pillows and lay on the floor in the living room watching at least 2 movies and eat copious amounts of popcorn. Tonight was a special treat. Sydney brought over her handy dandy Hello Kitty popcorn popper and the kids had a blast watching fresh popcorn pop!

Tonight's movies were:
High School Musical
Shrek 3

Movie goers:
Mom
Maren
Maija
Preston
Caleb
Barbara
Sydney
Brindley

Tonight's Menu:
Appetizers Pigs in a blanket
Main course Macaroni and cheese
Dessert Mini oreos and chips ahoy
Movie snacks fresh popped popcorn
Liquid refreshments Sprite, milk and water

Everyone had fun singing along to High School Musical, even the boys! Syndey and Brindley tired out at the end of HSM and went home to sleep (Sydney and Barbara live next door). Caleb went home and got to go out for icecream with his parents. Preston and Maija stayed up to watch Shrek 3 and Maren went to bed!

Science Fair results

Preston won 4th place out of ALL the 3rd grade classes (6 classes total). His project now gets to move on to the district science fair on February 2nd. He was sooooooo darn excited. When we got home he was jumping all around the house. Such a cute kid! He dressed up for it and his teacher asked him if he dressed up just for her and he was blushing. Too funny.

Just because she is so darn cute!

I love the haircut. She LOVES the haircut. Don't you love the missing tooth?

Do a little dance, make a little....

Watch this girl get down! She normally goes at it with much more gusto but she's be a sick little girly for a while and just doesn't feel good.

Preston's science project

Its not mandatory for third graders at our school to be part of the Science Fair but Preston's teacher in her 'infinite wisdom' decided to make it mandatory for her class. Joy... So we pondered and looked around and finally Preston decided he wanted to grow crystals. I think he wanted to grow like Quartz and other fun things like that but since that wasn't very feasible we settled on salt, sugar and alum crystals. We set it up when school got out for Christmas break and let them grow.

The actual Science Fair is January 1oth. We'll let you know how it goes.
